There are 10 commandments in the Bible, and the 9th one, not the first, is:
"You must not testify falsely against your neighbor."
A more precise way of saying that is:
"You shall not lie."
Parables and diplomatic words are clever ways of avoiding the truth. One might believe that straight-out lying is a sin, yet tricky, twisty words are considered fair game.
As I watched this video of famous quotes by Napoleon Bonaparte, I felt as though these words are true – without the editing.
I dream of a world where I do not have to try to figure out what people are saying, and do not have to agree when they lie to me.
